Nearby Folk Account Deletion

Overview

You can request deletion of your Nearby Folk account from inside the app. The request is handled by our backend so your account, profile, nearby presence, subscriptions, and related app data are processed consistently.

Deletion is intended to be permanent. Once you confirm the request, your account is signed out, hidden from other users, and scheduled for permanent removal.

1. How to Request Account Deletion

  1. Open the Nearby Folk app and sign in to the account you want to delete.
  2. Go to Profile or Settings, then open Delete Account.
  3. Read the consequences shown on the screen.
  4. Confirm that you understand the action is permanent.
  5. Tap Delete My Account.

The app sends a secure authenticated request to Nearby Folk and signs you out after the request is accepted.

2. What Happens Immediately

  • You are signed out of the app, and active sessions are invalidated.
  • Your Firebase Auth account is disabled so the same account cannot be used during the deletion window.
  • Your public profile is hidden and shown as Deleted User where a placeholder is needed.
  • Your nearby presence is removed, Ghost Mode and nearby visibility are turned off, and push notification tokens are cleared.
  • Active voice-room participant rows are removed so you no longer appear in live rooms.
  • Your public Spaces are removed immediately.
  • Any active Nearby Folk Premium subscription status is cancelled in our system.

3. The 45-Day Deletion Window

After you request deletion, Nearby Folk keeps the minimum account records needed to complete the deletion process for 45 days. During this period your account remains disabled and is not used for nearby discovery, recommendations, notifications, or public profile display.

This short retention window helps us handle security, fraud, dispute, payment, and legal compliance needs before the final purge runs.

4. What Is Permanently Removed

After the 45-day window ends, a scheduled backend job permanently deletes or removes account data associated with your user ID, including:

  • Your Firebase Auth user and user profile records.
  • Your username reservation.
  • Your subscription record in Nearby Folk.
  • Direct chats you participate in, including their message subcollections.
  • Friend requests, friendships, and notifications tied to your account.
  • Stories or Spaces owned by you, including related views and likes.
  • Community or group messages authored by you, where our backend can identify them.
  • Voice-room participant rows and blocked-user rows connected to your account.
  • Profile, Space, and direct-message storage files on a best-effort basis.

5. What May Be Kept

Some records may be retained when needed for platform safety, legal compliance, fraud prevention, dispute handling, or audit integrity. This can include reports, moderation history, and audit logs.

These retained records are not used to keep your deleted account active, visible, or discoverable.

6. Can Deletion Be Reversed?

Account deletion is designed to be permanent. During the 45-day window, the account is disabled and cannot be used normally.

If you believe the deletion request was made by mistake or without permission, contact us immediately at support@nearbyfolk.com. We can review the request only before the final purge happens, and restoration is not guaranteed.

7. If You Cannot Access the App

If you cannot sign in but still want to request deletion, email us from the email address connected to your Nearby Folk account at support@nearbyfolk.com.

Include your username and any details that help us identify the account. Do not send your password, OTP, private chats, payment card details, or other sensitive credentials.

8. Related Policies

Account deletion is handled together with our Privacy Policy, Terms of Use, and Community Guidelines. Those pages explain how Nearby Folk collects, uses, protects, and moderates information across the Service.
